Pearl #30 ~ Moving On

Well, I did say this blog is an experiment.  Yes, it's August 23rd and I'm only on my 30th pearl.  That means that there are at least 335 pearls for me to post by January 25th, 2013.  The challenge is looking a little more daunting now than it did in January of this year, when I was inspired and unemployed, with all the time in the world to dedicate to a blog.  The thing is that I didn't dedicate my time then, just as I haven't dedicated a whole ton of time in the five months I've been employed at my new job.

But here's the thing about me.  I'm a processor, a muddler, a mulling-things-over-before-I-execute kinda gal.  This can be good and this can be bad.  It can result in severe procrastinational tendencies but it can also mean that when I get around to executing, I've thought through many of the pitfalls, found solutions, plotted out an efficient and workable plan.  Packing for a vacation is a good example.  Rarely do I start packing ahead of time, but I start thinking about packing about a week out, if not more.  I mean, I already know what I'm planning to wear to my friend's wedding in Oregon in September, so the worst of that packing scenario is already resolved and I've still got a full two weeks before I leave!

Okay, so in the interest of full-disclosure, I should admit that this is not the best example since I almost always wind up packing in a hurry and leaving late (which is why I set early departure goals - my own built in cushion for the inevitable delay).  But at least the delay is not from trying to decide what to bring, rather it's from the process of gathering all the pieces from my chaotic wardrobe system.  Yes, if I started ahead of time, I'd have everything laid out and folded and neatly ready to put in the bag, or better yet, already in the bag waiting for me to don a cute traveling outfit and waltz out the door like the chic flight attendants that roam the corridors of Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris (trust me on this).

So now that I've justified my process and then debunked that rationalization all in one fell swoop, I should figure out just how I'm going to get the suitcase of this blog packed with all 365 necessary items without missing the scheduled departure time of January 25th, 2013.

The Peru series was good at getting at least a handful of pearls up, and I like this idea of the Food series and incorporating more images into the blog.  Why can't a pearl be just an image?  After all, isn't that why we take pictures?  To capture those little moments that mean so much and contain so many memories - the very purpose of this blog?  Yes, more images is key.  And smaller posts.  And random thoughts and observations from daily life - not just the past.  And more variety.  This is good.  I think this could work.

Now, I just have to execute.  And work on that novel that's supposed to be done by the end of November.  When did November creep up and start hovering just around the corner, anyway?!

Blog on.
